Exit interview with Pixie Polite

How do you think you changed or grew during the competition?
Well, I have always been a camp cow who knows how to put on a show and be silly, but, if anything, I think being on Drag Race UK has changed my opinion on the things I thought I would be bad at. As a plus size person, I would have never thought that I would enjoy walking on a runway and showing off my body and outfits, but I did! Coming from a more traditional cabaret setting, I think the show has made me realise, actually, I can do anything these other girls can do. So watch out world!

What have you learned about yourself?
I think what I have learned most is from watching the show back when it has aired. It has been interesting watching myself reflected in the mirror of reality TV. I think it has shown me someone who tries their best but is also very insecure and sensitive. I think it serves to show why it is important to empower ourselves and to share our experiences especially for the LGBTQ community where so much trauma exists. The show serves an important purpose in shining a light on these sorts of issues.

What looks are you most proud of and why?
I am so proud of all of my looks from the season! I wanted to show that plus size people can deliver fashion and fun on the Runway and I think I achieved this. I am especially proud of my Queen Elizabeth the first inspired look, as well as my Neon, Birth of Venus and Pink Racer looks. For me, my looks this season were either about celebrating my size or making a personal statement about something important to me; whether that be my Del Boy look inspired by my dad, or my Pixie Makeover looks which were a tribute to my late Grandmother.

Every one of my runway looks held special meaning for me and that’s something I’m extremely proud of. I think it is very important to reflect the joyous entertainment aspect that British drag derives from, rather than just focusing on being a pretty model. British drag has always being camp first and foremost - it’s not London fashion week! - and I think it’s good to remind drag race fans of that fact!

What’s next in the pipeline for you?
I have a lot of exciting things coming up, including my debut single, ‘Give it To Ya’, which is available now on all streaming platforms. The song is about my own journey of body positivity and self worth in the world of LGBTQ dating and body standards. It’s an anthem about owning your own sense of confidence and sexiness! In addition, I will be making my debut at the Royal Albert Hall this December with the BBC Orchestra. I am also heading out on tour this Christmas around the UK and working on several other projects. I’m really looking forward to throwing my pixie dust around the world!

Drag Race UK Series 4 will airs weekly on BBC iPlayer and worldwide on WowPresents Plus.
