RPDRUK Series 3 - Episode 5 Review
Fasten your seatbelts kids, it’s going to be bumpy ride!
The episode begins with the Queens coming back into the werkroom after the double save. Charity expresses how she feels she hasn’t been doing as well as she thought she would in the competition before the conversation moves swiftly to the Queens who don’t have any badges (Kitty and Charity). I mean you know the conversations are going to happen but YAWN! As we have seen before it doesn’t matter how many badges you have when it gets to the end! The Crown could be anyones.
Entering for a new day in the werkroom sadly the chat hasn’t moved on from badges but luckily Ru enters to start the challenges. For the mini challenge the Queens had to pair up with their best bitch where one will become the dog and one will become the trainer. Before this episode Scarlett had expressed how close Charity and her are but when Scarlett grabs hold of Charity to pair up she awkwardly expresses she wants to be with Kitty and leaves Scarlett standing all alone. Krystal finds herself in a similar position which puts the two together. The teams then get into quick drag before taking on the doggy assault course.
This is the highlight of the episode and it only gets worse from here sadly. But having said that during this challenge the Queens put on a hilarious dog show. I didn’t really have a favourite pair but the win goes to Krystal and Scarlett who are then assigned team captains for the main challenge. For this main challenge the teams must create an advert for a product, in this case Draglexa. The team captains take turns in picking teams where Charity is left at the end which Scarlett loved! On Krystals team we have River, Charity and Vanity, on team Scarlett we have Kitty, Ella and Choriza.
The Queens get to work on their adverts and right from the get go both teams seem confused on what to do. Neither team has a real clear idea of what they want to do and you know from this moment that the adverts aren’t going to go down well. Ru returns to the werkroom to check up on the Queens and chats with the Queens more about ‘storylines’ than the actual challenge. No advice is really given about what to do or how to make it better. Once Ru has left team Scarlett begins to get ready but team Krystal are still finalising the script! Both teams then go off to film their adverts with Michelle whether they are ready or not. During team Scarletts filming everything was a little chaotic. There were enough scenes to fill a feature film and seems they only had 45 minutes credit to them they squeezed it all in. Team Krystal’s filming wasn’t much better but Charity had fully taken over by this stage and you could see on Krystal’s face she wasn't happy about it but she didn’t say anything either. Michelle during filming can clearly sense things aren’t going well but she doesn’t really step in like she has on other seasons (or if she did they didn’t air it). The Queens all leave the studio but neither team really shows any reaction of how they felt the challenge went.
The next day the Queens enter the werkroom to get ready for the runway theme of expensive looking drag. As they do Scarlett and Kitty have a heart to heart about Scarlett’s Mum. Scarlett opens up about how they used to fight a lot growing up and now they are having to make up for lost time due to an illness her Mum has. You could tell this really was upsetting Scarlett and might be why things are going the way they are for her in the competition.
For the runway I must admit it wasn't much better than the adverts. BUT, I will defend them, as it is really hard to create an expensive drag look without it being expensive! Most of the Queens can’t afford the All Star level of drag and I don’t think we need to see it either. So with that said I’m not going to be too harsh on the Queens and instead just focus on my favourites which were Vanity Milan and River Medway! Both looked great but River’s look was AMAZING and not only that she showcased some of her heritage on the runway too which I loved. We couldn’t have agreed more with Guest Judge Leigh-Anne Pinnock from Little Mix who said that the outfit was the best one on the runway.
Then came time for the adverts where both teams flopped. There were a few funny moments in them but really that was awkward laughing at what was happening rather than because we were meant to. That said some Queens I felt did okay so when Ru then announced his displeasure at the quality and that there wouldn’t be a single winner I was shocked. I felt a win could have easily been given to River or Vanity but still it’s his show and instead everyone was up for elimination! I’m sure when Ru said that all of the queens butt cheeks clenched super tight. After the judges give their feedback they then ask the Queens to vote who should go home. The votes mainly get stacked against Scarlett and Charity and one took it better than the other.
When the Queens untuck the queen that didn’t take it so well was Scarlett who looses her sh*t with the queens when asked how she felt. I do get it from one point of being upset you were picked but Scarlett was a bull that had seen red and got so angry she walked off set. All I will say is it is a competition. They knew they had to pick someone so just take it with a pinch of salt, that said in the moment I would probably be upset too.
Once back on the main stage we have the same bottom two as last week but Ru reminds the Queens that one of them will be going home. Charity and Scarlett battle it out and we sadly see Charity get sent home. I know Charity didn’t do so well in the challenges but I really do think her runways will be missed. They were so creative and not appreciated properly by Ru or the other judges in my opinion. There were weeks she should have been in the top and not safe for sure. Yes, I agree sometimes ‘spooky cooky’ isn’t always the route but I felt even when Charity didn't they read her. Take the runway for episode 2. Charity gave glam and they read her when she was one of the best looking queens on the stage. But it is just a competition and maybe not the one for Charity. Either way she’s a superstar and we can’t wait to see what else she does. To read the exit interview with Charity click here!
From the teaser of next week’s episode Scarlett doesn’t seem to have forgiven the girls and when the library is opened it looks like she LOOSES it!
