RPDRUK Series 3 - Episode 3 Review

Before we jump into this, there are spoilers below if you haven’t watched the episode yet. All the comments below are just my fun opinion, its a TV show, don’t get upset if I didn’t like your favourite Queen!

Double 3! That’s series 3, episode 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK that just dropped ready for us to review. The episode starts with the Queens walking (well poor Victoria hobbling) into the werkroom after Elektra Fences elimination. Vanity wipes the mirror clean before the queens sit down to de-brief. There they discuss poor Victoria’s knee and if she thinks she will be back after the medical. Victoria then says it’s not over until the fat lady sings as Krystal says, getting in another, I’m fine with it but I’m still making jokes about it because I’m clearly not. Then Veronica pipes up ‘Kitty do you want to sing for us’ the Queens all scream and are in hysterics but I do wonder if Veronica will get the same hate Krystal did for a fat joke? I doubt it but let’s see.

Swiftly moving on, Victoria goes off to get checked and when the new day in the werkroom arrives Victoria is missing, nothing is mentioned until Ru enters the werkroom and tells the Queens that sadly she won’t be returning to the competition.

As sad as it is Ru rightfully says the show must go on, to read Victoria’s exit interview click here.

And that the show does, for the mini challenge this week the Queens are tasked with getting into quick butch drag so they can record a video profile for Findhr, the new dating app for the ambiguous straight bloke. The queens scramble to get ready in just 15 minutes before the challenge starts. I mean this was one of my favourite mini challenges yet and the queens really did have me laughing. From Vanity packing a fake package to Ella Vaday or as social media knows her, trade of the season, getting her arse out. I mean how many times has that been rewatched I wonder?! However, for us the best two blokes were Scarlett Harlett and Kitty Scott Claus who absolutely nailed it!

Ru gives the win to Scarlett Harlett and then tells the Queens their maxi challenge is to bring the outdoors to the runway with two campy looks! First is Happy Camper which is a look the queens could bring from home, the second Campfire Couture which is a look the queens have to create themselves using only the camping equipment provided! Scarlett is given a quick head start as the winner of the mini challenges before the carnage starts!

After giving the queens some time to fight over camping supplies Ru brings Raven into the werkroom so the queens can discuss their planned looks and get some tips on make up from the guru herself.

With that done the Queens get back to making and some are struggling more than others. One of those is Krystal who first approaches her Kent sister River Medway for help. River gives her a bit of advice but explains in her confessional she could help her create the whole look but she won’t as its a competition. I know she will probably get some flack for that but I applaud her! It is a competition so yes, give opinion and advice but if they want to be a superstar they are going have to do it themselves!

During the making process Kitty and Charity begin chatting away and very bravely Charity opens up about her HIV status and how she was taken advantage of in her younger years. I mean credit to her for being so open and honest but also shining a massive light on how far we have come (we still have a way to go though) in fighting HIV and the stigma that comes with it. The moment was super sweet and again we can’t applaud Charity enough for being so open.

Now as we have two looks to go through I’m going to just talk about our high’s and lows for each category. First Happy Campers.

Some of the looks I just really didn’t understand sadly. They confused me more than anything but my tops were Charity and River Medway. I liked how River used a fun look of a map but still made it look like a really nice outfit! The sleeves were everything for me. Now I’m not a horror lover but Charity… girl what a look. It was simply incredible and I loved every minute of it. Campy, maybe not but the level of detail was incredible!
My big fail went to Veronica and Choriza whose looks I either really couldn’t place with the theme or just felt it wasn’t done very well.

Now time for the second category which was outfits made by the queens.

We had very different types of outfits on the main stage but apart from a few I think everyone actually did really well! My tops were Scarlett Harlett who looked ready for a next ad campaign, Charity Kase and Ella Vaday. All three very different looks but they all just looked so incredible in their own right! But with every high you also have lows which for me was Veronica and Vanity. Veronica’s well just next to everyone else did look a little bit like a car crash sadly, I honestly did love the concept, it just didn’t pan out that way it should and then for Vanity it wasn’t necessarily the full outfit, mainly the wig and I felt like all the other Queens (especially Ella Vaday) walked confidently in their outfits where I think Vanity knew she wasn’t looking the best.

The judges critics were a little mixed and usually when a queen has to explain an outfit the judges read them for filth. However, Choriza spun this hilarious story about being a villain with her owl helping her see in the dark after getting jizz in her eye. I thought Ru might be like for that your in the bottom, but instead he lapped it up and the hilarious explanation ended up saving Choriza! Ru gives the win to Scarlett which was so well deserved and the two bottoms matched with mine.

As Vanity and Veronica battle it out they took very different approaches. I know Vanity can MOVE! But she kept it rather reserved and opted for the lip syncing accuracy which has worked for her before. Veronica left it all on the stage, no literally. She tore her outfit off bit by bit with her emotional performance and with Victorias exit I really thought we might have a double save. However, Ru does not and he saves Vanity sending Veronica home. I must admit her drag wasn’t my cup of tea but I really did feel for her. Imagine spending all that money on looks for your first season to then get covid and miss out and then when you come back spend more money on looks after not being able to work in lockdown’s / battling depression to then be sent home early! Poor petal.

However, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of Miss Veronica Green and you can read her exit interview where she talks the future, her time on the show and more by clicking here.
