RPDRUK Series 3 - Episode 7 Review

Tensions still seemed a little high this week between the Drag Race UK Queens as they recover from the shocking double elimination of River and Choriza last week. The main battle seems to be between Scarlett and Ella who continue their battle of if Ella has a personality or not. The urge to de-drag moves the girls on ready for a new day.

Ru and the girls all enter the werkroom for a new day and Ru announces a new challenge for the Queens! They must all present 3 looks on the runway as part of the miss fugly beauty pageant, but they won’t know the runway theme until a short set time before it’s time to walk. As much as I enjoyed this challenge I did question the true timings of how long they were given. Your telling me Ru went from being in mens clothes to getting ready in full drag in 60 minutes… I don’t think. Raven is good at doing Mumma Ru’s make up but not at that speed. I also questioned the Queens not knowing what the theme of the runway would be as they all had looks ready (apart from the middle look) so must have known that look was coming at some point? Either way lets pretend I didn’t just pull apart the episode and enjoy the chaos.

First category was fugly swimwear! With 60 minutes on the clock the Queens scramble to get ready. Whilst getting ready the Queens discuss online trolling. Kitty says how it wouldn’t bother and in the her due to her size (which there is nothing wrong with, but you know how people can be). But it doesn’t, she expressed how she has always been taught to love her body and thinks her figure helps her in drag anyway. Ella then opens up about how inappropriate people can be in her DM’s which is another issue all in itself. Remember people, these are just that, real people with real lives and partners. No one wants your nasty DM’s! Krystal then starts talking to the girls about how Drag really makes her more confident and how it helps hide the boy features she hates. Krystal then opens up more and expresses how she has never been sexual with anyone and how that may shock a few people as her Drag look is VERY sexual. I think it was an incredibly brave thing for Krystal to open up, especially when lots of gay culture revolves around sex. Before we need to grab the tissues the queens are then reminded they don’t have much time left and most haven’t even finished their looks! Scrambling everything quickly together the Queens then head to the main stage!

My favourite look… that’s a hard one. I loved Vanity’s front on but then at the sides it just looked less fitted. Otherwise though I thought this look was really strong. Krystal was probably my second favourite due to the spin on it but I felt it only wasn’t the best I have seen other Queens do looks like this better. My least favourite… Scarletts, I liked the style of it but I didn’t understand cats on a swimsuit, they hate water…

For the second runway we have Charity Shop Chic! For this runway the Queens had to go backstage to a set up charity shop and pull off a look using a minimum of 5 items! As the Queens scramble off stage (nearly breaking ankles) they enter the set up charity room to find Charity Shop Sue is there! Sue helps… okay she doesn’t really help she just gets in the way to be honest but it was brilliant. All the Queens begin getting ready with looks but poor Krystal has to take her whole face off and start from scratch. This takes her most of the time and it’s a made dash to put a look together.

I felt the Queens did okay with what they had to play with and my favourite was probably Vanity. It stood out the most and looked the most ‘posh’ as a whole if you ask me.

For the third and final look the Queens had to create a fugly but fashionable look. Ru slashes the time in half and only gives the Queens 30 minutes to get ready.

I had two stand outs for the final look - Krystal and Vanity. Both screamed fugly fashion that you would see at a fashion week! They were both brilliant but I think my favourite had to be Krystal’s, it was just a little bit more polished than the others.

All the looks walked as a whole I think the Queens did an amazing job and apart form some staged panic I really enjoyed seeing the Queens take on this challenge. For me, my winner was Krystal, she had 3 good looks (okay the middle was okay but she had to pick from the scraps and paint a whole new face). Ru had other ideas and gave the win to Kitty, I was so pleased for her but I do feel this wasn’t her week to win and she should have won a badge on others to be honest. I’m not mad though as clearly you can see how much it meant to her. Ru then picks the bottoms for the week as Scarlett and Vanity, both have been in the bottom twice before and both survived. One will be sent home and one will become a lip sync assassin!

Both put up a good fight but there was a clear winner which was Vanity. To read the exit interview with Scarlett Harlett about her time on the show click here.

Before we end this episode review I must say Alesha Dixon was such a good guest judge. We’ve been really treated to some great guests who have really thrown themselves into the show and Alesha was one of them. She even left her seat when the lip sync was happening!
