RPDR Season 13 - Episode 14
Before we jump into this, there are spoilers below if you haven’t watched the episode yet. All the comments below are just my fun opinion, its a TV show don’t get upset if I didn’t like your favourite Queen!
It’s the final stretch for the Season 13 Queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the finish line is so close. But before the Queens can get there they have one final episode ahead of them.
Kicking off the new day in the werkoom Ru joins the Queens to to tell them their challenge this week is to write a verse for his new song ‘Lucky’ and star in the music video. The Queens get right to work and begin writing their lyrics. During this time one by one the top 4 take time to sit down with Ru and Michelle for a round off. For the first time (or at least the first in a long while) Ru seemed really relaxed with the Queens. The chat seemed to be the most natural we have seen. I’m not sure if he’s always like that or the producers just never showed it in the edit but still, it was lovely to see and a joy to watch each round off interview with the Queens.
With no time to spare the Queens race off to join Jamal Sims for choreo, all the Queens pick up their moves fairly quickly, I mean none as fast as Rose who is a born natural! Returning to the werkroom the Queens sit in front of the mirror for one final time. They all reminisce over what they first thought of each other and how far they have all come. It was a really sweet moment between the Queens and I think its possibly one of the mixed yet closest top 4’s we have had. What I love is for the young queer community to see so many different types of people in one place all getting along and being a support unit. I wish I saw that growing up.
Jumping to the main stage we get to see the music video in all its glory. The new song was okay, not what I thought the track might sound like that’s for sure. I think for the songs style Rose’s lyrics or at least the way she delivered them fit the best. Having said that I think Gottmik did steal my attention the most during the whole thing and if I had to pick a winner of that challenge I would have awarded it to them. That said I was a little underwhelmed overall. I’m not sure if it was the song but something didn’t feel like a final challenge music video to me. I’m not saying the Queens didn’t do a good job, I just wasn't blown away.
Moving to the final runway and I lived! I always find it funny at the end because everyone looks so different to each other and that makes it hard to compare looks. If I had to pick a favourite look I think it was Symone, BUT only when she was stood still. When movement was added it just reminded me of when you are folding bedsheets on your own and its too much and it clumps at the bottom and you can’t fold it properly. However, as I said when the movements stopped it looked ready for the cover of a magazine!
The Queens then have a very emotional pep talk with their child past, it was one of the most emotional ones yet I think. And not emotional in the way when usually you are like oh great here we go eye roll. Fake tears usual bull, this time I was actually touched by each Queens little speech. When I looked at everyone stood together I turned to my partner and said, 100% all lip syncing for their legacy, he can’t have a bottom two, everyone was did equally well. Although I called that I didn't expect Ru to make them all lip sync one by one! It was nice to see actually, as it gave each Queen the stage to do their own thing like in a normal show setting. Rather than 50 Queens (bit dramatic usually 2) on stage fighting for the space. That is one of my biggest bug bares when the Queens try to step in front of each other to take the spotlight. Honey, if you are having to do that you can’t be doing a good job. If you felt that good about what you were doing you wouldn’t need to steal the spotlight in that way. Anyway thanks to the solo lip syncs we didn’t get that this time. This leaves Ru with one big decision to make… well lets be honest it wasn’t, we all saw it coming. Everyone goes to the final!!! Now I say we all saw it coming because each Queen is so unique and I think it does really deserve to be a top 4. I think each Queen will bring something different to winning the crown and I’m excited to see who that is.
When the season started we did our usual C.U.N.T (Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent) scoring on promo photos only. Looking back I had the following scores before the season aired…
Symone C - 8 / U - 9 / N - 9 /T - 9.5 - Total = 35.5/40
Gottmik - C - 8 / U - 9 / N - 9 / T - 9 - Total = 35/40
Kandy - C - 8 / U - 8.5 / N - 8.5 / T - 9 - Total = 34/40
Rose - C - 6.5 / U - 6 / N - 6 / T - 7 - Total = 26/40
Funny how wrong you can get it from first impressions. I’m sorry Rose! haha
