Exclusive Interview with Prince
Prince, welcome to Spill the Tea my love. Firstly, condragulations on getting on the show but before I get to that, let’s start right back at the beginning, how and when did you discover you wanted to do drag?
I’ve always wanted to try but really wanna do it on a special moment. Halloween was about to happen and i was thinking what should I do for the party. Then I realized I should really go in drag. And then a popular drag contest with lipsync battles happened with the theme “Disney on Ice”, I joined.. went as Prince Charming in drag (because I know the other girls will come as Disney Villains / Princesses) & was crowned winner that night. It was pretty iconic.
What made you want to be a part of Drag Race Philippines?
Since I started doing drag, I’ve always aspired to become a part of RuPauls Drag Race because it’s such a big platform that can definitely create a 180° turn of your career. But it was only a dream back then because I know that I will never be part of it since it’s just in the US but since the franchise happened, I really took the chance to be able to make it!
How did it feel to be selected to compete?
I was so excited - it’s a dream come true, really. You guys have no idea how hard and such a looooong process it is to be able to prove that you deserve that spot and be part of the cast. It was crazy but mostly I was very excited.
How was it taking part in the show compared to your expectations of what it would be like?
You mean going home too soon, it was not in my fantasy. I mean, that’s the name of the game, right? But I really had fun!
Sadly, your time on the show was short lived but what was your favourite moment or memory?
Definitely being able to create a new family with my season 1 sisters. It’s always so humbling being with them and we have this special moment that we shared together that no one can take from us - I love them so much and I do consider that love & sisterhood my prize!
Did you think your talent show / runway look critiques were justified? Now for the biggest question of them all… would you have changed those shoes?!
I think my talent show is not too bad. However, the shoes and the undergarments failing is inexcusable but hey I gotta work with what I have in that moment so.. . Regarding the shoes, it’s not even the shoes I was supposed to wear but it got damaged so I had no choice. But oh well.. shit happens.. and I think THE SHOES was pretty iconic.
If you could what one challenge would you have loved to stick around for?
Can I do 3? I’m looking forward for Rusical, an acting challenge and a design challenge!!
Now, let’s not forget losing is the new winning (as RuPaul says), and of course getting on the show is a huge achievement which opens many doors, so my question is what do you hope the future holds for you?
I have high hopes that this is not the last time you guys will see me on screen. I hope that people will see me for what I can do, more than what they just saw on the show. The future for me & Philippine drag is as bright as the stars!
Shout-out time! What queer performer deserves a shout from you and why? - This can be a drag King, Queen or anything in-between or simply a queer artist doing their thing.
I wanna give a shoutout to all the baby queens&kings who’s being so supportive of me and my drag sisters from Drag Playhouse PH / Drag Race Philippines - Marina & Eva. Your love and unending support for us is just so amazing & know that we all see you grow as an artist & an individual.
