Exclusive Interview - Divina De Campo
Divina De Campo darling! Welcome to Spill The Tea.
Congratulations on your brilliant EP ‘Decoded’ – What was the main reason you wanted to release an EP?
Well I’ve been writing music for a few years before drag race. Mostly ideas and little snatches of tunes but it felt like the right time for me. I have things I want to say and music has always played a huge part in my life.
What’s your personal favourite track from the EP?
I’m not sure I can really choose each one means something different and works for a different mood if that makes sense? I’m particularly keen on pocket rocket princess and down with you.
What one emoji describes the EP the best?
Of course before the EP, you landed on our screens for the first season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK! What made you want to apply for the show?
I’ve been an avid fan ever since it began. It’s an amazing platform and opens some doors that were closed before.
Were you shocked to have been selected?
I was hopeful that I would be but like with all TV till it’s happening it’s not happening. So even after filming I still wasnt sure whether it was definitely happening or not until it was on screen lol.
What is your favourite memory from the show?
Blu saying to Rupaul ‘I think ball gowns are a bit overdone, no offence.’
You have been so busy we don’t know when you would have had time to squeeze it in, but who is your favourite Queen from RPDR Season 12?
Theres so many of them i like. Generally I like all the queens anyway theres rarely total grotbags on screen. Not to say there hasn’t been. I think Jan and Rock are both proper sweethearts this season.
Your first single from the album ‘A Drag Race Song’ shares the lyrics ‘I get the distinct impression that Michelle Visage doesn't like me’ is this true?
Hahahahaha of course not. It’s a joke. Michelle is an absolute sweetheart. She's the toughest judge on the panel but that’s her role. She is super lovely.
If you could record a duo with anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Tori Amos. I think she is incredible.
Can fans expect more music from you in the future?
Absolutely yes. It wont always be the same but it will always be fun.
