RuPaul's Drag Race Season 14 Episode 11 Review
Hey, hey! Welcome back to another review of Season 14. We’re ploughing through the episodes; I can’t believe it’s been like 2 months since the season premiered. We’re still going strong, and so are the queens! Last episode we saw the flop that was Snatch Game, which meant that this week the queens needed to compete in a lip-sync smack down Lalaparuza! It’s safe to say I was eagerly awaiting this episode! I really wanted to see the likes of Bosco and Willow serve up some performances and I was not disappointed!
The episode starts with a another firey rant delivered by the lovely Daya Betty. She really went in hard this week, calling out Jasmine and Jorgoeus for...being just as bad at Snatch Game as she was? It was rather strange to observe Daya’s frustration because whether she thought so or not, all the girls deserved to be in the bottom last week, with the exception of Deja Skye. Once again, Daya’s competitive nature is getting the better of her, that mixed in with some shady editing! I’m here for it though, TV is TV and she’s certainly playing up the villain character.
There’s no mini-challenge this week and the girls go straight to preparing for the Lalaparuza. The conversations in the werk room are ridden with anxiety and anticipation, with the Queens wondering what the format of the lip-syncs will be.
All is revealed when the girls strut onto the runway – where RuPaul announces that there will be a series of 6 lipsyncs to determine who goes home. Let’s rate those lip-syncs!
The first lip-sync is between Daya and Jasmine. Jasmine got to pick her partner and with the shadiest move, choosing a queen feared her dancing capabilities. However, Daya got to pick the song and went with ‘Repsect’ by Aretha Franklin. This was a very smart choice for Daya which I believe granted her the win. Daya knew that she wouldn’t be able to necessarily out-dance Jasmine so instead she picked a song that required total embodiment rather than splits. Daya rightfully won the lip-sync, securing her place in the competition.
The following lip-sync was between Willow and Bosco. Willow strategically selected Bosco because she thought Bosco would choose the same song that she would. This was a smart move but I’m sure they would have been matched equally regardless of the song, neither queen is known for kicks or flips so the performance was very interesting. Bosco chose ‘Never Too Much’ by Luther Vandross and I do think Willow’s quirky dancing gave her the win. Bosco gave sexy when the song required something a little sillier.
The third lip-sync was a three way between Angeria, Jorgeous and Lady Camden. Unfortunately for Angeria and Camden, Jorgeous was able to pick the song and she went with ‘Radio’ by Beyonce. It was in this moment that I knew who the winner of the lip-sync would be. To be honest, all three of them were great and I thoroughly enjoyed each style of performance, but Jorgeous embodied Beyonce and gave us choreography as well as sass! Jorgeous cemented her position as a lip-sync assassin and remained in the competition.
The next queens to lip-sync were Lady Camden and Bosco. Lady C chose Bosco presumably because she didn’t want to go up against Jasmine and Angeria gave quite the perofmance in the previous song. Bosco chose ‘Don’t Let Go’ by En Vogue to try and throw Lady Camden off, but unfortunately for her that didn’t work. Lady Camden served face, soul and encapsulated the essence of the song, so she rose to the top and secured her place in the contest. I wouldn’t want to be Bosco in this moment, having lost 2 lip-syncs doing songs that didn’t need any tricks or flips.
The penultimate performance was between Angeria and Jasmine, lip-syncing to ‘Love Don’t Cost A Thing’ by JLO! This performance was perhaps my favourite one, the girls really turned it out and made it a very hard choice for RuPaul to make. Angeria came out victorious which must have really demoralised Jasmine. We’ve seen her completely annihilate other queens when it comes to lip-syncing, so to lose not one but two performances must be tough.
In the end, it came down to Bosco vs Jasmine. This was a very hard pill to swallow because both I respect and admire both queens so much. RuPaul revealed that the last lip-sync song would be ‘Swept Away’ by Diana Ross. When this was announced, I instantly feared that Jasmine wouldn’t be able to embody the song, which wasn’t far off from what happened. Bosco was the main character in that performance, therefore, she won it! I was in absolute awe of her beauty and movements! What a legend!
Unfortunately, this meant that Jasmine had to open up her chocolate bar, which was just that...chocolate! No golden bar in sight! Jasmine gave us looks, drama and comedy during her time in the competition! Go send her some love!
