RPDR-UK Series 2 - Episode 2 - Review

Before we jump into this, there are spoilers below if you haven’t watched the episode yet. All the comments below are just my fun opinion, its a TV show don’t get upset if I didn’t like your favourite Queen!

Thursday is the new Friday now Drag Race UK is back on our screens, after a dramatic first episode last week where the whole of the UK couldn’t believe their eyes when sadly Joe Black went home first we are back with our episode 2 review / highlights.

The Queens walk back into the werkroom and scrub off Joe’s lipstick message from the mirror and get ready for another day! Time for a new day the Queens gather to de-brief before the next challenge is upon them. The Queens begin having some banter with each other and honestly I was cackling! It reminded me of my home life and how my family are with each other and I well and truly loved it. UK banter / throwing shade is so different from the US Queens. I think if a UK Queen gave a US Queen this type of banter to them they would run off and cry or it would be the drama of the season! Here in the good old UK we are used to it, by the end there was so much clapping back it was like we were back at in the first episode with tennis balls flying everywhere again.

RuMail interrupts the Queens and they all gather to find out what will be happening this week. Ru makes a joke about how we love a pole and for a second I thought that dreaded May Pole was coming back! Luckily not, this time it was to cast a vote. The Queens had to vote and elect a Queen for each award which were…

Secretary of shade
Trade minister
Leader of the house of lording it up
Baroness basic

The Queens all voted but before I reveal the results I would have given the following awards

Secretary of shade - A’Whora
Trade minister - Tayce
Leader of the house of lording it up - Asttina
Baroness basic - Tia Kofi

The only difference from myself and the actual Queens was picking Lawrence Chaney as the Cockiest but just like Trump I wont accept it! Asttina girl, there confidence and there’s cockiness honey. Awards given Ru reveals that the challenge this week is Rats the Rusical… oh but that’s not all, it will be a LIVE singing performance!!!! Tia Kofi is given the role of casting due to being called the basic bitch. Massive credit to Tia here I think she handled the role very well and went for a better performance than trying to throw people under the bus.

Roles cast the Queens go to the main stage to join Michelle for singing lessons which tbh I thought could have gone worse, we usually see more drama in these little bits but everyone seems on the same level of let me get dressed up and I will get into it and give it my all. This was pretty much the same for the dancing apart from a little break down from Lawrence Chaney.

Now I won’t go into full details about how the show went down but best vocals for sure went to Tia Kofi! Round of applause girl, I know Veronica is the singer but I was more blown away by Tia’s vocals.
Best rat - Bimini Babes totally rocked the rat character
Worst performance - I actually wasn’t blown away by Sister Sister and forgot her more than anyone else.
Funniest Rat - Ginny Lemon I thought she might get the top spot.
Really well done though Queens, seems that was live I would actually have paid to go see that in the West End. What I think people forget is Drag for most Queens before Drag Race is practising lip syncs where they are the director. It must be very hard to go from being this loved lip syncing diva to suddenly singing live in front of Ru himself!

For the main stage the theme was surprise surpise and some surprised us more than others.
My favourite concept was Veronica and Asttina but I don’t think both pulled off their reveals as well as it could have. They both looked a little like my first attempt at dressing up for Comic-Con!

My favourite look pulled off was A’Whora for sure.

Least favourite - Sister Sister
Shocked us the most - Ginny Lemons hairy arse!

All I will say is there is a fine line for the surprise working and how long it takes you to get to that surprise. For example I knocked Lawrence Chaney down so much because it took forever to reveal and when it did it wasn’t great.

I also want to give a massive shout out to Alan Carr and Sheridan Smith who guest judged this week. I know Alan is a permanent fix (so should be into it) but both were totally hilarious and really got into it. I think the problem with some guests is they don’t get into it enough or I think they fear a telling off from Ru or panic at how they might come across on camera. Both Alan and Sheridan didn’t and had me in stitches to points where I had to rewind it to watch the look again.

Runway walked Ru picks his tops and bottoms. For me I think my top this week would have been Ellie Diamond and Veronica Green. I don’t think Ellie got enough credit for her performance and runway looks.
Bottoms I think it would have been Sister Sister and Lawrence Chaney taking into consideration both performance and runway.

I’m not Ru and sadly two of my favourites were in the bottom… Tayce and Cherry. I won’t say who went and I know whatever way it went I would have been totally gutted. But all I will say is I just can’t see how some of the other Queens are stood on the back row looking dreadful with Queens who are looking sickening who actually didn't do too bad in the challenge stood in front of Ru lip syncing for their lives! Still I’m not the head judge.

Either way another great jobs Queens well done, showing the world how the UK does it! I’m so proud of you all.
