RPDR - Season 13 - Episode 8 Review
Before we jump into this, there are spoilers below if you haven’t watched the episode yet. All the comments below are just my fun opinion, its a TV show don’t get upset if I didn’t like your favourite Queen!
The episode starts with the Queens stating they have had enough of playing nice and are ready to fight for what they want. This relates to mainly Utica who let Olivia take the role they both wanted last week, helping Olivia get a win and nearly putting Utica in the bottom. Denali also states she’s fed up with Queens saying she's forgettable when Denali already has a win under her belt.
A new day in the werkroom arrives and the Queens discuss Kandy’s suggestion of the cast living together in a big mansion, which leads to her missing the presence of Joey Jay. I agree Kandy that eye candy is missed!
However, this is interrupted when Ru enters the werkroom. Ru reminds the Queens that he takes all their phones away at the start of the show to help them focus (and wont be giving them back)! I mean a funnier twist would be to then get them out and say I have been using all your Grindr accounts for fun. Shall we go through them. Instead Ru announces this weeks singing and dancing challenge is for ‘Social Media The Unverified Rusical’. Each Queen will be assigned a social media platform as their role in the show.
The Queens get to assigning roles for the Rusical and it starts off fine, most of the Queens get their favourite until we get to Denali. Denali announces she would like two roles, Utica quickly pipes up she would like one of them. You would think that would then be okay, Utica you have this role and Denali you have that one. But no no no, after the Queens agree Utica is one role Rose announces her want for the role left that Denali wanted. Denali then quickly snaps back that she could take either, but rightfully so Utica is having none of it and announces she’s keeping her role. This then leads to a mini audition against Rose and Denali for who should get the role. Audition done nearly all the Queens vote for Rose to take the part which leaves Denali with the Russian twin with Gottmik. Understandable Denali is a little pissed she didn’t get either role she wanted but girl just take it and fight to win!
Before the Queens can go and record vocals for this weeks challenge with Michelle a little visitor drops by for a virtual chat, that super star was the one, the only… Anne Hathaway!
Anne Hathaway actually came across really well when chatting with the Queens and it was super sweet to see. She gave some really good acting advice and if we weren't in a pandemic I’m sure she would have been the guest judge for sure.
Advice done the Queens go to lay down their vocals with Michelle, I mean a few struggled but so would I if I wasn't a singer! It was pretty much the same story for the dancing practice with Jamal Sims, the Queens who can dance pick it up, those that can’t struggle a little, it’s what usually happens.
All prepped for the Rusical it’s time for showtime. Now as there are too many of the Queens left I wont go through them one by one. Instead I will give a little top and bottom performers review. Now nobody hate me, but that was actually one of the most boring Rusicals (or singing and dancing) challenges I have ever seen on the show. I was so bored by the end, I don’t know if it was just too long or didn’t have enough depth to it but I was bored. I love social media and use it for work so it wasn’t that I didn’t understand it! I mean I loved the Holland Rusical and didn't understand the language or history behind it. Anyone else?
Anyway my shout outs go to Tina Burner, I thought she led the show well and dealt well with such a big role, her voice fitted perfectly and for me she did a good job. Rose was a good stand out but we knew she could do it. So it wasn’t that surprising for me which then made me go… okay well done but not WOW she smashed it. Gottmik and Denali did very well as a duo and I felt both complimented each other. My worst performers were Symone and Elliott. Symone didn't give it to us and Elliott just faded, despite her little light show sequence.
Performance done and I’m mega bored at this point so luckily to brighten things up we have a runway of Yellow Gorgeous. It was refreshing to see some of the Queens in a colour they might not normally wear. For Tina this is one of her colours but her look was good, I liked the idea… oh wait. Out comes Elliott with 2 T’s in the same theme of a New York Taxi and girl after I saw hers that was it. I really liked Denali’s but when she turned around the headpiece didn’t look like it went all the way around, also after seeing Veronica Green’s Medusa headpiece on the runway Denali’s didn't seem that impressive. I really liked Symone fashion forward look but I think I will give my favourite look to Denali. My least favourite was Kandy as it was a little plain for me.
The critics are given and I had to disagree with some of them, I thought Tina was going to be a top, TBH I didn't even notice her stop lip syncing before her death bit, maybe because I had fallen asleep with the Rusical by this point but I felt she wasn’t credited enough for the hard roll of narrator.
Ru picks his top which is Rose and his bottoms which was Symone and Kandy. I would have gone the same way but before the lip sync started I said to my partner I dunno what Ru is going to do. He has one of his strongest look Queens and his biggest personality. He can’t loose either this early. Lip sync done and I would have picked Symone to stay too. Although Kandy was moving around more, it was just that. Moving… if you watch closely I’m not sure if it was her outfit stopping her but it wasn’t polished movement. That isn’t meant to be a read, but if I was being picking on who to stay that would be why I picked Symone. I did say again to my partner when the lip sync ended, double save for sure. But Ru picks Symone to stay, I was shocked. I really didn’t think Ru would send home Kandy just yet despite being in the bottom a few times. She is TV gold. Kandy gives a tearful goodbye and thanks Ru for the chance to be here and leaves the stage.
Just as she gets to the other Queens to hug it out one last time Ru shouts Kandy! Calls her back and agrees it isn’t her time to go and we have a double save!
