RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under - Episode 7

Before we jump into this, there are spoilers below if you haven’t watched the episode yet. All the comments below are just my fun opinion, its a TV show don’t get upset if I didn’t like your favourite Queen!

And here we are, just one week away from the final of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under. It’s gone so quickly and what a journey it’s been. Last week we saw Scarlet sent home the heart of the season Maxi Shield and the episode starts with the Queens return to the werkroom to wipe off the lip stick message before starting a new day with a new challenge.

When the new day in the werkroom arrives there is no mini challenge this week and only a maxi challenge. Ru informs the girls they will be putting on a talent show. I actually think this one is a little hard as being a Drag Queen is their talent… that’s like saying to a singer in a singing competition now show me your talent… erm… I sing? Either way the Queens running order is put in the hands of Kita Mean who won last weeks challenge. Apart from Scarlet and Elektra wanting the last spot there wasn’t really any drama. As the Queens get ready for the talent show they are joined by Ru and Raven for some last minute advice. I’m openly not a huge fan of Raven but she looked flawless and her advice to the Queens was really good. Ru almost seems more at ease when Raven is around too which is nice to see.

Jumping right to the talent show I’m going to give my judges critics to each of the Queens for their talent…

First up Karen from Finance who chose to do balloon animal making but with a ‘sexy’ twist guided by Ru and Raven. I see why Karen went for the sexy look as Ru basically said to her do it or else! But I think Karen should have done ‘comedy’ then if Karen stuck to Karen from Finance trying to put on a balloon talent show and kept failing that would be funny. Imagine, constantly popping the balloons and then on the final one pulling it off with some either amazing balloon animal or a really awful one or p*nis shaped one. Either way the route Karen went down wasn’t for me.

Next up Art Simone who put random objects into her mouth. Anyone else doing this would have been boring, Art Simone doing it. HILARIOUS. I honestly thought it was fantastic for what it was. A winner, maybe not but hilarious all the same.

Kita Mean did a costume change routine which I always LOVE! The costumes were exactly amazing but I can forgive them for the energy of the performance. A little like Art, I enjoyed it but it wasn’t a winning performance.

Then we had Scarlet who didn’t want to go in this position but there we have it (I must quickly applaud Scarlet, when she found out that she didn’t get the last spot naturally, she was pissed. Anyone would be, but she didn't then make such a stink out of it that she looked a fool, anyway back to the talent show). Scarlet killed it, I mean if you are going to do pole dancing this is how you do it… Shea Coule, no knee pads and actually pulling off difficult moves, just saying.

Then we ended the show on Elektra who did a contemporary dance routine. Now if done as a normal performance not dressed in drag, probably very moving. But as Elektra sadly it didn’t work for me, the hair over the face (my pet hate) and the make up didn’t go with a contemporary dance routine. Sadly this made Elektra my least favourite in the show.

For the runway we have a category of ‘how’s your head piece’ and tbh if a leak from this season aired showing these looks I would have said this was finale look quality. The girls really did saved these looks to give us one of their best weeks collectively yet. I LOVED so many parts out of all the Queens looks. 10 / 10 effort this week ladies.

Judges critics given, Ru then asks the Queens who should be going home… luckily even Kita Mean (who had the hardest call) didn't do the whole, I can’t do it! Please don’t make me they're my sisters. And instead everyone knew what had to be done and did it. Sadly for Elektra her name was on everyones lips but I will also applaud Elektra for taking it very well, it must be soul destroying especially to have your sister (Kita Mean) say your name. But instead of having this big old drama about it Elektra was pretty calm and collected about it all. Once back stage and untucking, singing sensation the Veronicas turn up. I think the girls would have been amazing guest judges and it’s a shame covid made them only able to appear by video link. Either way the Veronicas ask the Queens various questions about who did well etc etc. The Veronicas came across very natural with the Queens which I LOVED and hopefully if Season 2 is renewed for Down Under we will see them as panel guest judges or guests on a singing challenge.

Back on the main stage Ru puts Elektra in the bottom but also picks Kita Mean! I was honestly shocked, I really thought it was going to be Karen (who must have also thought that along with Art Simone as both took off their head pieces). Dancing to the Veronicas, both Kita and Elektra express how they don’t want to do this against their sister but then Elektra begins to walk to the back of the stage looking upset… are we about to see a Ginny Lemon but on Down Under. I bet Ru was like F*CK, not again, close the gates! But no Elektra was just having a little bit of fun. I know some people will attack Elektra for not walking off and giving it to Kita Mean but I see it from differently. If Elektra did, they just gave up and almost insulted Kita by not giving them the chance to send them home but then on the other side imagine sending your sister home who has a really good chance of winning the show at this point. Either way lip sync done and Elektra is sent home where she takes it really humbly and from the preview we saw wrote a lovely message for Kita on the mirror.

Now the only thing left to do is vote whose team you are on… whose team is everyone on? Let us know in the comments or on our socials.
